Bio: Apex Nova Labs — Our Story
Apex Nova Labs began in Khutsong, a township in Merafong, Gauteng — not in a boardroom, not with a team of investors, but with one belief: that South Africa's next generation of innovation doesn't need permission to start small. It needs the will to start at all.
The company was founded in February 2026 by Itumeleng Sejeso, who at the time was — and still is — completing Grade 12. Long before Apex Nova Labs had a name, a logo, or a single line of working code, it had a question: why should access to quality education and real job opportunities depend on where you happen to be born? That question became the foundation everything else was built on.
What started as an idea called Edu Link SA, sketched out under the working name Apex Nova Digital, grew into something far bigger. Today, Apex Nova Labs is a CIPC-registered South African technology company building tools that meet young people at every stage of their journey — from their very first year of school to their first job.
**The products that carry the mission**
ELSA, short for Education Link South Africa, is the company's flagship platform: a CAPS-aligned learning tool for Grades 8 to 12, built so that no learner is left without support simply because their school can't provide it. ELSA Junior extends that same promise down to the foundation phase, Grades R to 7, so the support can begin as early as possible. And Tiro closes the loop on the other end — a free job-matching app designed to connect unemployed matric graduates with real opportunities, because finishing school should be the start of something, not a dead end.
**A team built on conviction, not convention**
Apex Nova Labs is led by a young executive team: Itumeleng Sejeso as Founder and CEO, Lonwabo Nkosiyane as Chief Technology Officer, Ofentse Motadinyane as Executive Secretary, and Adona Mpofu as Chief Marketing Officer. None of them waited until they had a traditional resume to start building something that mattered.
That same boldness has defined the company's early public moments. The team sat down with YFM, one of South Africa's biggest radio stations, to introduce ELSA to a national audience. And when the opportunity arose to be in the same space as the Minister in the Presidency, the team didn't wait for an invitation — they introduced themselves on the spot and made the case for Apex Nova Labs directly, with one of their own learners standing beside them as proof of exactly who the work is for.
**Beyond the products: Project Next SA**
Apex Nova Labs isn't only building software — it's building a movement. Project Next SA is the company's platform for turning that mission into action across the country: a live dashboard tracking national impact, an interactive map connecting every province to local projects and volunteers, a calendar of community events, opportunity boards for jobs and bursaries, and a growing network of volunteers and partners who believe in the same future.
**Where it's headed**
The roadmap is deliberate. ELSA is piloting in schools across Merafong, with a Gauteng-wide launch targeted for September 2026 and a national rollout from January 2027, aiming to reach over 10,000 schools. Beyond ELSA, ELSA Junior and Tiro, the company has already named two future directions: Apex Nova Mobility, exploring electric vehicle innovation, and Apex Nova AI, focused on building localised, African-language AI models.
Itumeleng has been clear about one thing from the start: he doesn't consider himself a CEO in the fullest sense until the company is generating real revenue. It's a small detail, but it says everything about how Apex Nova Labs operates — substance before status, impact before image.
This is a company that started with nothing but conviction, in a township often overlooked by the systems it's now trying to change. Its story is still being written, one classroom, one matched graduate, one ambushed meeting, one province at a time.
