The partnership between the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a key initiative aimed at fostering digital innovation and entrepreneurship through the Digitech program.    By combining the academic expertise and research capabilities of UJ with the DCDT’s commitment to ICT development, this collaboration is providing a robust platform for South African SMMEs to access cutting-edge research, innovation hubs, and technology resources. The partnership supports the growth of ICT startups by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to develop groundbreaking digital solutions, empowering them to compete both locally and globally.

Beyond technological access, the DCDT-UJ collaboration focuses on skills development, research, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship. UJ’s advanced programs in AI, blockchain, and digital systems provide SMMEs with opportunities to collaborate with leading researchers, participate in incubator programs, and access tailored training initiatives. This partnership is also instrumental in linking academic research with industry applications, ensuring that innovations emerging from the Digitech program are not only technologically advanced but also commercially viable. Through this collaboration, the DCDT and UJ are driving sustainable digital growth, job creation, and the development of South Africa’s digital economy.
