South Africa’s Digitech ICT SME Programme has earned its third major international recognition, receiving the prestigious 2025 – WSIS+20 Global Award in Geneva. This significant accolade specifically celebrates Digitech’s profound impact over two decades of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process, acknowledging its pivotal role in driving digital transformation.
The award underscores Digitech’s status as a globally recognised platform that nurtures, showcases, and connects South Africa’s promising ICT Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). It further affirms Digitech’s position as a “gold standard” in ICT SME development, not only within South Africa but across the African continent.
This recognition, along with its 2023 G20 Prize and 2024 ITU Digital World SME Award, highlights a world-class approach to public-sector-led innovation enablement and reinforces South Africa’s dedication to building a competitive digital economy. The WSIS+20 award specifically validates Digitech’s long-term commitment to equity, transformation, and sustainable economic participation by bridging talented young innovators, especially from underserved communities to the formal digital economy.
